Due to the potential impacts of industrial action on the railways the ale amblers will head to Oxford for their Saturday amble instead of the previously announced destination of Tamworth
Oxford is easily reached on the Stagecoach S2 bus from Cheltenham.
The plan is to catch the bus that leaves Royal Well at 9.05 (as it is a Saturday, the oldies can use their bus passes at this time). We will then return on the last bus – 5.15pm. We can’t afford to miss this, especially if there are no trains!
The Ale Amble to Tamworth (including visit to CAMRA’s 2023 pub of the year) will now take place on Saturday 23rd September.
We will leave Cheltenham on the 10.59 train arriving at 12.05 and returning on the 18.03 arriving back at 19.14. (There are later trains.) The best deal (with a railcard) is an Anytime Day Return from Cheltenham to Worcestershire Parkway costing £6.45 and an Off Peak Day return from Worcestershire Parkway to Tamworth costing £9.20. Total cost: £15,65. We will remain on the same train for the whole journey.
Veronica will lead the ale amblers on a local trip around the pubs of Bath Road. We will start at the Norwood Arms and then walk down the road heading towards Morans. We will start at 12 noon and grab some food on the way. All members welcome
A Saturday ale amble to Swindon primarily so those folk who are still working (what a shame!) can see the pubs there. I suggest you get the 10.59, arriving at 11.58. There is an 18.29 on the return, plus quite a few trains. It is up to you which you take.
Saturday ale amble to Bath.
Another Saturday ale Amble this time heading to Bristol before catching the train to the outskirts of Bristol along the Severn Beach route.
The plan is to get the 10.52 train to Bristol Temple Meads and then get the Severn Beach branch line, getting to Shirehampton at 12.08. There is one pub there and after a pint, we get back on the train and head back towards Temple Meads, stopping at different stops. Our friend, Norman (from Cardiff and Bristol), will arrange the itinerary for us. All you need to know is the first pub which is the Lamplighters at Shirehampton.
